Abstract

This study aims to assess the impact of competition on the level of export product diversification in Vietnam amid deepening economic integration. Based on 4-digit export data of Vietnam and its trading partners during the period 2003–2022, and employing the system Generalized Method of Moments (sys-GMM) along with the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI), the authors find that competition has a statistically significant negative effect on the HHI. Based on the research findings, the authors propose several solutions, including strengthening innovation, improving the institutional environment for competition, reinforcing domestic supply chains, and enhancing market governance capacity for export enterprises.
