Transcending the boundaries of time, Great Proclamation upon the Pacification of the Wu (Bình Ngô đại cáo) by Nguyễn Trãi not only reconstructs the resistance against the Ming invaders through vivid portrayals of national unity and patriotic valor, but also affirms profound ideological standpoints on national independence. Through its articulate arguments on just war, patriotism, humanitarianism, and the role of the people, the Proclamation stands as a powerful declaration to the world of Vietnam’s sovereignty. With its cogent reasoning, forceful rhetoric, and profound thematic content, this seminal text is a paragon of heroic prose in the canon of medieval Vietnamese literature.
