Abstract

Medieval Vietnamese literature is not only diverse in works but also rich in literary theory. The literary theory of the ancients has two main aspects: the nature of the work and the position, role, and function of literature. In terms of function, medieval literati discussed a lot about the aesthetic, entertainment, and educational functions. In the educational function, in addition to knowledge education, the ancients emphasized the importance of moral education. There is an intrinsic relationship between morality and literature, because literature and morality are often not determined which one appears first in the writer's consciousness. But the most obvious thing is that literature is an extremely important form in the issue of moral education for people.
