Abstract
Thanh Hoa, from which Lam Son uprising and the Later Le dynasty originated, played a key role in the revival of the Later Le dynasty. In the midst of the Later Le dynasty’s war against Mac dynasty (or the Northern dynasty), Van Lai - Yen Truong (currently Thanh Hoa) was chosen to be the capital city of the Later Le dynasty (or the Southern dynasty). Thanh Hoa had became the politic and military center of the Southern dynasty since the capital was established in Van Lai (1546), and later in Yen Truong (1554). During the 47-year-period (1546 - 1593), Thanh Hoa’s undeniable importance in the revival of Le dynasty was proved by the fact that the capital ciy alternated between Van Lai and Yen Truong.
