Abstract
In this study, we collected and isolated three strains of rice leaf blight bacteria, Xanthomonas oryzae Xa-01, Xa-02, and Xa-03, from three rice varieties: Thai Xuyen, Nep Thom, and BC15, respectively, in Dong Ninh district, Thanh Hoa province. The results of the toxicity examination of saccharin against X. oryzae showed that saccharin did not directly affect the growth of X. oryzae at concentrations ranging from 0.05 to 2 mM.
Regarding the growth of young rice seedlings, saccharin did not exhibit negative effects at concentrations of 0.05 to 0.5 mM; however, concentrations of saccharin ranging from 1 mM to 2 mM showed mild toxicity. Experiments on the infection of X. oryzae bacteria on rice seedlings previously treated with saccharin revealed that saccharin concentrations ranging from 0.1 mM to 2 mM were able to induce resistance in rice against X. oryzae. Saccharin at a concentration of 0.5 mM offered the highest disease control effect, reducing disease severity by 52.2% compared to the control.
