Abstract
Maize in Hoang Hoa district is frequently affected by insect pests, especially by fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda, black cutworm Agrotis ypsilon Hufnagel, stem borer Ostrinia furnacalis Guenee; common cutworm Spodoptera litura Fabr and com aphid Aphis maydis Fitch. In some areas, insect pests cause damage to corn yield by 15- 30%. Maize varieties cultivated on sandy soil in Hoang Hoa district are mainly infected by 5 insect pests, o f which the fall armyworm, common cutworm and stem borer appear most frequently and cause severe damage. In different maize varieties, occurrence and damage o f insect pests are also different. The research o f the four maize varieties, CP333 variety is the most severely infected, followed by QT35 variety, and QT55 variety is the least infected one.
