Abstract

The epic poem is a sub-category of poetry that is large-scale, covering great issues of history and era, and often has an epic inclination. The inspiration towards the origin, the nation's history, and the painful problems that take place in life has given wings to the development of the epic. The appearance of a number of epic poems written on the topic of the country has brought important values to Vietnam's modern literature, including the epic poem “Ngang qua binh minh” by the young poet Lu Mai. In this article, we explore the image of a marine soldier in Lu Mai’s epic poem “Ngang qua binh minh” in both content and artistic aspects. From that, we have a basis for affirming the value of this epic and the literary talent of poet Lu Mai.
