Abstract

The study was conducted in Thanh Hoa province to determine suitable rearing methods for Tap Na reproductive sows. Experiments were conducted on 30 Tap Na gilts, randomly divided into 2 groups; each group included 15 Tap Na gilts. In the first group, pigs are raised in household. Floor cages were brick or cement with area of 4.0 m2 - 4.5 m2/head and a backyark with area of 3.0 m2 - 5.0 m2/head. Feed was self - mixed meeting nutritional requirement in each stage. In the second group, pigs were raised completely in farm. Floor cage was hard plastic or cement; water was supplied automatically; area of 0.6m x 1.8m; fed on commercial diet. The results showed that: rearing methods had significant effect on the body weight at the first oestrus age and the body weight of the first mating age, but did not significantly affect on the reproductive performance of Tap Na sows. If using a balanced diet, full of nutrients according to the needs of each stage growth of Tap Na gilts and Tap Na sows then it is possible to comletely keep in farm or keep in the household with the backyark without affecting on the reproductive performance.
