Abstract
Psychological tension is an inevitable phenomenon in social life when the challenges posed are too great compared to the available resources of each individual. Factors causing psychological tension can come from various sources, including those arising in the parentchild relationship regarding academic performance. A study investigates the level of manifestation of psychological tension (PT) among 9th-grade students at secondary schools
in Thanh Hoa city in relation to their parents regarding academic performance. The research results indicate that 9th-grade students at secondary schools experience PT at a moderate level. Among the four aspects of PT, students exhibit higher emotional and cognitive levels compared to physiological and behavioral aspects. Considering the subjects of the PT research among 9th-grade students in secondary schools in Thanh Hoa city, there
is no significant difference. However, PT among 9th-grade students at Tran Mai Ninh secondary school in relation to parental involvement in academic performance is slightly higher than that of students at Dong Hai and Ly Tu Trong secondary schools. Through equipping students and parents with knowledge and timely measures, the current situation can be improved to reduce PT in students.
