IMPACT OF GENERATIVE AI ON STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF RESEARCH SKILLS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AT HONG DUC UNIVERSITY

Abstract
This study investigates Computer Science students’ perceptions and experiences of using Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) in the Scientific Research Methods course at Hong Duc University. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including a self-reported survey of 114 students and semi-structured interviews with 6 lecturers. The descriptive findings indicate that students tend to perceive Generative AI as useful for searching academic materials, developing research ideas, and supporting academic report writing. However, both students and lecturers also reported several risks, including misinformation, tool dependence, reduced critical thinking, and difficulties in assessing students’ actual competencies. The study proposes several directions for integrating Generative AI into higher education in a guided and transparent manner, in alignment with academic standards.
