Abstract

This article studies the semantic development of the color adjectives in modern Vietnammese poetry. The research results show that the color adjectives, when used in their original meaning, denote the nature and characteristics of the color of objects and phenomena in objective reality; when developing semantics, these adjectives express emotions, fate, personality traits, different stages of life, social classes and life in people’s perception. This semantic development does not occur arbitrarily and spontaneously but follows the common methods and rules shared by all languages.
