Abstract

Drawing upon landscape criticism theory, this article interprets the colonial landscape represented in novels about the Central Highlands to address the research gap in recognizing the role of spatiality within literary discourse. The study views the colonial landscape as a dual discourse that simultaneously embodies hybridity and functions as a mechanism of power. It asserts that literature not only represents but also actively participates in constructing and resisting the meanings of the landscape. This analysis sheds light on the historical -cultural ruptures and particular identity crises specific to the Central Highlands, thereby opening up novel approaches to the study of modern Vietnamese literature.
