STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS OF CHATGPT IN SPEAKING PRACTICE: A STUDY AT THE FACULTY OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES, HONG DUC UNIVERSITY
Nội dung chính của bài viết
Tóm tắt
This study explores second-year students’ perceptions of ChatGPT in English speaking practice at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Hong Duc University. Using a mixed-methods design, the research collected questionnaire data from 100 students and interview data from 12 participants. The study examined five dimensions: ways of applying ChatGPT, perceived usefulness, convenience, limitations, and appropriateness. The findings show that students generally viewed ChatGPT positively, especially for preparation and out-of-class support. They often used it to prepare vocabulary, organize responses, and practise dialogues. However, they also pointed out limitations such as inaccurate answers, unnatural language, and overdependence. The study suggests that ChatGPT can support speaking practice, but should be used as a supplementary tool rather than a replacement for real interaction.
