Bài viết nghiên cứu so sánh hai tiểu thuyết Túp lều Bác Tom của Harriet Beecher Stowe và Người yêu dấu của Toni Morrision nhằm làm rõ sự tương đồng và khác biệt trong cách văn học đối diện với chế độ nô lệ và những chấn thương của nó. Bằng cách vận dụng các phương pháp nghiên cứu phù hợp, nghiên cứu chỉ ra tiếng nói tố cáo chung của hai tác phẩm đối với sự phi nhân tính của chế độ nô lệ, thể hiện qua sự chà đạp nhân quyền, bạo lực và sự tan vỡ gia đình. Bài viết cũng phân tích những khác biệt sâu sắc, phản ánh lăng kính sắc tộc, bối cảnh lịch sử và chủ đích nghệ thuật riêng biệt của mỗi tác giả. Nghiên cứu khẳng định sự chuyển dịch trong diễn ngôn văn học Mỹ từ một lời kêu gọi đạo đức nhằm thay đổi xã hội sang một cuộc “khai quật” sâu sắc về những vết sẹo tâm lý của lịch sử.
